Ikea is preparing to conquer the field of low cost hotels , launching a chain of 100 accommodation in Europe (specifically in Germany, Belgium, Great Britain, the Netherlands and the Baltic states). Confirming the news, in an interview with the Swedish newspaper Svenska Dagbladet, was Harald Muller, manager of Inter Ikea. The company which will invest one billion euros – “is seeing around Europe and will announce in a few weeks where the hotel will be opened.”
The project involves the construction of at least 100 structures that will be implemented in the central areas of cities chosen and, above all, reflect the Ikea philosophy that combines elements of modern and functional design at affordable prices. The chain will be managed by an international hotel operator: it will not be real “Ikea Hotel” (not show neither the Ikea logo, nor will it be furnished with the company’s products), but they are rather a chain of “Budget Designer Hotel “ which aims to meet the demand of business travelers and is looking for a central and comfortable, and tourists that link to reduced charges.
The first hotel will be completed in Germany in 2013 and will be financed with the proceeds of the Swedish group. For the official announcement of the birth of the first hotel chain Ikea will have to wait “a few weeks.” Remove everything that is not strictly necessary, as the restaurant, and we will focus on a good breakfast, and the presence of high-speed Internet,” said Muller. Lean practices and fast check in and check out. This is a first step in the Swedish giant in real estate: in the future, Ikea might as well invest in student housing.
